Those of you who know me are probably asking yourselves, "why is Matt starting a blog?" Those of you who don't know me, what exactly are you doing here? I mean, you've made a great choice, but if you're reading blogs of people who you don't know, maybe it's time to get a different hobby. Seriously. But to answer the first question, well, there's no simple answer. But I'll try.
I don't think I'm any more or less important than anyone else. If I did, I certainly wouldn't start a blog. I think this blog puts the official count at somewhere around 216,741,090 (I rounded). (Oh, and I actually like parentheses, so get used to it. It's the typing version of Seth Rogen. My typing comedy style is under my breath.).
I simply find that it's easier to express a fuller version of myself when I'm not talking to someone. This format allows me to put my opinions, experiences, etc. out there in a way that is less diluted. I understand the appeal of social networking sites for this reason, but I get enough email as it is. Plus I was always the guy who friends were dragging out in high school, college and so on, and not a lot has changed since then. I'll leave the social-ness to Nancy and Oliver.
It should also be said that I drive Nancy crazy when I talk to her about things she's not interested in. I have a great network of friends to talk to about a variety of things, but it still seems like a lot of leftovers fall to poor Nancy. I would much rather share those leftovers with you! Congratulations!
Again assuming you know me, you know I like organization. So expect the same here. I will establish a variety of labels for my posts, like: Sports, Oliver, Books, Music, Current Events, General, and others that I've yet to determine. This one will be Intro, so if you ever forget why I did this, you can always look it up.
Before this comes to a close, I need to say one more thing. There will (hopefully) be a wide variety of people who read this blog. Remember, not everyone thinks like you, and not everyone thinks the same things are appropriate that you do. My family and friends have belief systems and political persuasions that vary widely. Please respect each other and try to keep this one blog, at least, relatively clean. That being said, if your argument is stupid or not well thought out, you will wish you kept it to yourself.
So welcome. I hope you find this to be fun. Look for updates of Oliver's progress, pictures, etc. (Today was his 2nd birthday, by the way. Those of you who are parents understand when I say it is very hard to believe how fast life moves sometimes!). I look forward to sharing and interacting with you, whoever you may be. See you soon.

Guess that makes me #2...who does #2 work for? I'm looking forward to this Matt since you are bad about communication, jerk. lol I'm sure I will be posting stuff that you will rip on me for. I don't mind being the butt of a joke. I like to think I have a sense of humility.

I think I accidentally became a blogger to get an account to follow your blog...ah well. This blog is funny (I am also a parentheses fan. I...I love parentheses. I'm not just pointing to them and saying I love them just because they're in the room. They are also like typed mumbling. Hehe). I am interested in reading more of your undiluted opinions, since your "diluted" opinions are (in my opinion) quite well presented.
ReplyDeleteI love that you have a blog.
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't read Dennis Lehane's latest book, The Given Day, do so. I think it is his best yet and different from his other books.
This will give me a chance to stay caught up with you other than on your annual visit. I generally communicate with Nancy with a say "hi" to Matt at the end of the conversation.
Hey I'm on facebook now....why not read blogs? :-)I'm down. Good stuff Matt.
ReplyDeletePlease make photos enlarge so that I can become a loyal reader. I must have Oliver pictures get big on my screen!
